    Self-made RK ??

    Hello,

    That one is confusing me.

The oakleaves are modern (or 57?), as the ribbon (or 57 too?).
The cross itself looks good for me, repairs are period IMO.

But - can we say that that repairs was made to make from it an RK? I think that yes, but what you think about that piece? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

            Thank you

I know that this is EK2, but can we say that it was repaired speccially for make an RK? And one more question - did that repairs was period? IMO yes, but I'm just a newbie in RKs...

                Hi Patryk,

In my opinion this is a good Deumer EK2 that has been converted into an RK, as others have stated. I don't know much about the oaks or the ribbon, especially from these photos, but I can say with certainty that these kind of conversions were done during the war. Among other evidence, we have photographic evidence that this happened. In fact I have even seen a Deumer used before in a good, period photo.

As for when it was done, I really have no way to say. In my personal opinion, the vast majority of these were done recently (within the past 50 years, say), and original period examples are hard to find. Barry Turk from eMedals sold one such example recently that came with a photo of the recipient wearing what appeared to be the same cross.

If I were you I would not spend more than the price of a Deumer EK2, and a set of fake oakleaves, for this set as it is now. It would be a nice display piece, but you would likely never know for sure when it was made.
                Best regards,
                Streptile

                    Thank you all for comments!

Trevor - yes, I remember that one from eMedals, that was stunning piece...
And you're right that we will never know for sure about the time of its repair
                    Thank you for your input

Btw I'm going to get that one (seller don't want much for that), 'cuase I also think that this is very interesting piece anyway.
If I'll get it I'll post some pics here of course!

All the best to you all,
                    Patryk
