Hi Craig,

The spange looks like the one covered in Dietrich Maerz and George Stimson book "The Iron Cross 1. Class" and is described on pages 556 through 561. However, the maker is unknown to date. Their book has a wealth of documentation and photos for the collector...

it's known as TheUnknownMaker. I've tried a few times to pin a maker on it, but to no avail!
don't clean it! I'll buy it as is

Nice unknown maker. If you feel you have to clean it, which is your decision, try the ultrasound method and not polishing.
