    Here for......

    .....here for you to see.

This ad appeared in 1987 in a militaria magazine. I to show to all who are interested what has been going on in our hobby......for a long, long time.

The really interesting part is what is revealed in the second expanded image. Read carefully and you'll see what I mean. It could be a less than honest claim, but it does drive home a certain point.

I've got one of those that I had purchased directly from HMA--I'll post some photos tomorrow. Gordon has a photo of the upper portion of the frame in his book--it's the cross marked HMA. I've seen one sold as an original!

            Erich,

this one I guess. This is not such a tough one to detect today, but in 87...

                Hi Dietrich......

......I am unable to show a better image because the same quality as represented here is the same quality as what can be seen in the ad.

                Sorry.

                  Hi Richard......

......sometime in the late 80's or early 90's H.M.A. changed from the California P.O. box to a P.O. box # in Hawaii.

Doesn't the ad say "every medal serially numbered and registered with a certificate of authenticity"? Shouldn't we be looking for a serial number and not just the "H.M.A." lettering on the rim?
Also the above KC's come with Oakleaves and Swords, so it would be interesting to see these as well. Maybe struck from original dies?

                    Regards,
                    Brett

                      HMA crosses

The serial number was only recorded on the COA that came with the cross. I'll take some daylight photos tomorrow and post them. As Dietrich said, they're not a serious threat at this point. They do make a good display. The Oakleaves and swords are not very accurate.

                        -

At least an honest fake-dealer – as they marked all crosses with their Hersteller-code!

Says in the ad they were using original dies, who’s dies exactly were they using?
The top arm frame and ring does not match any original piece I have ever seen. <O</O

Quite right Eric...I handled some of these too, as you say not a serious theat. The "original dies" bit is a bit of sales speak, restrikes of what ?...70's fakes maybe

Here's a photo of the fake cross and oakleaves/swords. Not a bad copy, but it wouldn't fool anyone who is a member of this forum, I should think.
