K & Q RK in Hermann Historica Auction

Hello Marshall-I actually like the boxy appearance of the K&Q, even when viewed side by side with its more revered cousins.

I've rarely made any overtures toward K&Q because I think they are just plain ugly!!!! Some of our contemporaries love the 'look'! However, that's what makes for conversation and I'm starting to appreciate the 'look' albeit you won't find a matching flange as far as ridges go.....Sarcastically: Hey Johann...here you take over this arm as I'm tired....Heck it looks like 3 people had a hand in making the die!

The cross looks 'rushed' regarding the FRAME but the core is very sharp in original crosses and that I find attractive!


Now, look at the cross offered by HH and the one shown by Robin.....1939!!!!

Robin's is sharp as a tack while the other appears 'soft'.....

That's why I thought this cross might have been repainted at some time. As Dave points out, the detail looks 'soft', especially around the date.

I like the K&Qs, but have noted them relatively maligned, mostly due to the contention that there are american restrikes about. Do you feel it is this assumption that causes the K&Q to command a lower price, or is it the relative abundance compared to a junckers?

Nothing firm on this at all...only that many fakes seem to use the K&Q frame style, and some come very close indeed (apart from the ring), although cores do not.
Regarding prices, I suppose that they are probably more abundant, but no real reason why they should be markedly different from the others other than that some collectors dont like the rather chunky looks I suppose.
Mint ones dont do too much for me, but the heavily used ones are another story

Thanks everyone for your comments. Looking at the K&Q posted by Robin, I agree that the details on the HH K&Q look a little soft for some reason. Given that and the reserve price of $5600 euros and the current US-Euro exchange rate of $1.19, I think I'll let this one pass.

I am in the market for one if anyone has a spare
