L15 EK1 playing with new camera

I got one of the little Nikons (P7000) and have sort of been playing with it to see what it would do. I still haven't got my lighting and photo stuff set up......also no tripod, so these are still handheld. Just took a box my cellphone cover came in, took it over to the deck door and used what light came in from outside (sort of shady on the deck at this time of day....so the light is not really good) and shot these.

What do you think.....I guess it will be better with more light.

Oh....the cross came from the Mainz fleamarket near the Dom (once a month fleamarket) along with this rather beat up field tunic of the fellow in the photo, who was an EM and got a promotion to LTN.......along with some other things that were his. I decided some years ago to get rid of a lot of the "nicer" tunics I had and keep this one......it actually was there instead of hanging in some schrank somewhere until a GI lifted it.

Somewhere I also have several of his sports award urkunde and etc..

    Ron

The EK has a Souval frame, and I think that this one is among the fishy Vienna crosses with L15 markings!

Well, after D & G's book on EK1's came out .. I would stay far away from anything with L15, L11 or anything similar to that style mm.

I guess I failed to make myself clear.........I was asking about the rather poor handheld shots and how the new camera was doing......and if you thought it might be fairly good when I get my lights and stuff set up........never really had one of the smaller Nikons before.

The EK itself? I don't worry about it........you shouldn't either. It is not for sale. I got it, like I said, one morning at the Mainz fleamarket.......about 1974 or 75.....from the family of the guy in the photo (I think it was either his wife and a couple of his kids, or maybe it was his sister and kids [older kids]). They had cleaned out the attic or basement at the home place, and, instead of pitching the stuff in the bulk trash, they decided to "try their hand", so to speak, at the fleamarket......maybe they could get some money out of the junk instead of just throwing it away. They did......people flocked around them. They had old coffee grinders, bed-warmers, bierkrugs, coal scuttles, chocolate molds.....lots of neat old things...but of course dirty (I got a few of those things too), and they had one big box of military. The tunic I posted was in it, the photo, several sport awards and other papers and urkunde (but the mice had been in it.....some didn't make it), a couple of pairs of boots, canteens, mess cans, some hats (mice and moths had chowed down.....but I sold them for insignia on them, buttons, and chin straps), some extra insignia, etc.. Paid 20 DM for whole box full. I sold over $100 worth of stuff out of it within days........even though the helmet was in really bad shape, I kept it for years.....but finally sold it several years ago when a guy offered me $150 for it (sort of wish I still had it). I still have what I posted and some documents (like I said).....if I could find them. The EK and infantry badge were on the tunic.......only medals they had. 20 DM was less than $10 at that time, so, if the family was selling repros, I don't think they were making much money on them . Of course that is just a story, and means nothing maybe, except to the person who lived the story. I don't know you, and most of you don't know me, but I do not lie.......and certainly not to myself, so I believe my story because I lived it. Those family members however might have lied to me, but, if so, they weren't very good repro sellers because they couldn't have stayed in business long.......the repros cost more even then.

Oh......the same day, a few tables on down the fleamarket, I got the cap on the bottom of the pile here (didn't have the button on the front....was stripped)......for 1 DM (less than 50 cents at the time)......only "military" that family had.

            These are older photos.

So........back to the original question........what do you think of the shots with the newer toy? Do you think the photos would be OK if I can get my lights and stuff set up? Maybe I should just stick with the bigger cameras I have....even though they are a bit more bulky.

            Thanks,
            Ron

I think that the pictures are fine. And you're right about bigger cameras being bulky. I have a very nice Canon camera, but it's like lugging around a suitcase!

The pictures are fine, bu as you mentioned, need better light.
But people are still allowed to discuss the cross you posted.

Me thinks he's just being defensive.
A whole 300 word spiel about where he got the items and why they are original, has nothing to do about the pictures or the camera either.

Never said you were not allowed to discuss it..........but I really only cared about what the camera might do. I quit caring all that much about the other stuff in the late 70s, and sold most of what I had left in around the mid-80s.....just because it became a pain in the butt..........it seems to get people all upset and arguing about it..........now that I am soon to be 72, and collected the stuff starting April 6, 1946 (started collecting U.S. things, and still like them best); died 4 times (brought back of course); and had a stroke that caused me to have to retire.........it really doesn't mean as much to me anymore.

If you are upset by my post, I will gladly withdraw from further posts since I really don't care about this stuff that much anymore.........otherwise, discuss away it doesn't matter to me.

I just wish I could get my remodeling done so I could sort the stuff I have left, and get rid of the stuff I really don't want to keep anymore.........if my son doesn't want it.

Yep......I knew the light was bad, and it would be better to use a tripod etc., but I guess, from what you say.....maybe the camera will do OK.

                    Thanks,
                    Ron

                      Hi Ron,

I think the photos are pretty good .

Posting them slightly larger may help.
                      Best regards,

OK.....I gave up and dug out one of those little tiny tripods of sorts.......still just natural light though, and only the first two are with the "tripod", the other ones are still handheld.

Sorry to use the same cross again, but right now it is the only one I can find.

I did make the shots a little bigger this time.
