Thanks guys I really appreciate your comments

If you can see from my pics there is a small round mark on the top frame , I presume this was possibly earmarked to be an EK2

@ Dragon, I got it from Militaria Berlin, and great service too!

@ Aicman, indeed a square , is this unique to this maker?

@wilcpfc, you will always treasure your first, mine was a '26' and I love her

      Hi Nick,

      it's a nice start indeed.
A nice cross, but it has been severely polished, which is a shame IMO.....

      Best regards,
      Ben

Oh, I'm pretty sure that one has been cleaned. When the patina is built up around the fittings (anti-rotation pin, screwpost, catch, whatever), it's a sure sign of having been cleaned.

To me it does not detract from it . It's just a matter of opinion though -- I don't like a polished cross with poor core paint, for example. I like the condition to be consistent overall, which yours seems to be.

              Trevor said it all.

The good thing is that patina will eventually return.

                  Hi Nick!
I have L59 too (little worn) on my cross can be see "x". I'm not expert cross collector, but I know that Rettenmaier used many little symbol ("o" "s" etc)
Interesting theme to collect. Maybe another collector can help to us,how many symbol can be found on L59.

I have just looked in Gordon Williamsons book and he states that these were quality stamps, the example in his book has a tiny swastika.

                    I like your example mate

Douglas5 is very knowledgeable about these marks, but doesn't check the boards too much. You could PM him and ask him to look here.
