    Hello Dez,

The vet who brought back the cross was with the 63rd Armored Infantry Battalion of the 11th Armored Division (Thunderbolt), 3rd Army under General Patton. He stated that he was in Linz, Austria in May, 1945 and traded a Luger pistol to a Russian officer for a German uniform "ensemble", which included "a bunch of medals". This Knight's Cross was among those medals. The uniform was long gone but I was lucky enough to score the Cross, which had been kept separately from the uniform. It wasn't stored under the best conditions, hence the oxidized appearance. But he said the physical damage to the Cross had always been there.
