Interesting EK Bar & Buttonhole Minis...

--Hey. Here are a couple of minis I've got. I don't see these around a lot and figured I'd throw these up after seeing a buttonhole ribbon (with the Luft. eagle mini) posted a few days ago by Wespennest.
--I always figured the EK was just ornamental, not representative of a first class. Maybe it was, I don't know. Anyone?
--BTW, these are two seperate pics merged - they are not to scale.

I always thought that it signified that the wearer had both the EKs 1 and 2, but that's just an assumption on my part.

--I thought that too, it would be logical wouldn't it? I have never heard anything about it, though.

I thought it would be logical. On the other hand, ribbon bars are generally worn on uniforms, yes? If so, wouldn't the soldier also be able to wear the badge version of his EK 1?

Hi George,

Your EK 1939 ribbon with the device is not a ribbon bar for a uniform. The EK 1914 can be found (unofficially) with this device, this was especially used by the Saxons, but never in the 1939 issue. So I think, this is a buttonhole ribbon for civilian dress. The 1957 EK ribbon bars show the EK II as plain ribbon and the EK I as ribbon with device, but without the swastika. To 1945 the EK I was EVER worn as original on a uniform, only the 1957 issue instituted a ribbon bar also for the EK I.

There will be a number of the 1914 minis and photo in wear in my Ribbon Bar Article that is Seba's "retirement" project for putting on the Association Members side.

The 1914 version is a perplexing, pointless "fashion statement" that did NOT indicate possession of a 1st Class. I have encountered photos of it in wear as early as mid-1919, by buck privates with ONLY an EK2. I suspect the naughty Saxons might have been wearing this device before the end of the war (spring 1919 wasn't a good time for extra expenses), but have yet to find documented dated photos in wear.

About a 1939 version I know nothing.
