This cross is a fake. It is often marked with either an '84' or '113' stamp. Here is a close up of the beading around the swasi...

Yes, Gary, yours is a fake. Here's an original '113' to compare...

Here is the same frame with a different core. The cross is stamped '84'.

                Robert,

I have no dog in the fight, and your a genius in regards to EKs when compared to me, but what about the frame makes it a fake? Just curious. talking with other members like Trevor I get frustrated at not being able to tell frames distinct features well (much more comfortable with cores). Your close up of the beading around the swaz is excellent but what am I seeing? What is the red flag?

As always, your posts are gold bud, thanks!

                  Ryan,

To answer your question all I can say for certain is that this frame is found wrapped around a couple of fake cores. As I've shown the ring stamps are fakes. I've given this cross (fake '113') to Trevor for him to study.

Here is another example. It's marked '16' on the ring. The frame is the same as the fake '113', and the core the same as the marked '84'. What a hybrid affair.

                          Ryan,

Here are some identifying features of the fake '113', '84' and '16' frame...

One other feature I've noticed on this fake is its wide (semi-wide) flange. The glossy paint and the fresh red/orange rust are also red flags to me.
