    S&L DKiG

I have been trying to find information on the S&L DKiG by reading the old threads here as well as the brief information in Gordon's book

    1. If S&L really made DKiGs, why do we so seldom see them?

    2. If wartime, how could one determine the difference between a post war assembly of war time parts, and a war time assembly?

Here is a site that has a S&L DKiG. What do you think?

    Hello-

No comments on the elusive S&L DKiG? I was in this shop over the weekend and took additional photos and weights and measurements. I think this is a "put together" piece. Any comments? Note the lack of uniform red border and the sloppy rivets. There is a gap in the hinge attachment and the plate. This has been shown on "put together" peices as well as "real" ones.

    weight 49.90g, dimensions 64.05mm X 64.07mm.

          Wreath

          Hello,

I don't like that wreath at all. It isn't "splayed" like original examples.....if that is the correct word to use. Thanks.

Yes- we should have! We were on our way back from Chicago and stopped at Simpsons Ltd in Galesburg. They have some good stuff, but alot of fakes. All in all , a fun shop. I think this is a post war put together piece. You can see it there- I got two other authentic DKiGs there for a good price, but this is definately funny.

                    Hello Tom,

If you got two DK's in there you should be skeptical. Isn't it a little weird that this is an obvious fake but the other two weren't? I don't know, but the DK isn't exactly a common award, and if this guy picked two authentic ones up then he should know not to sell this junk. Just my two cents.

Mathias- look at the difference in construction between the one you have and the one I posted. The one I posted is sloppy, but all the parts look correct. I think this is a "put together" post war cross. The rivets and hinge on yours looks well done, but this other one is just plain crap.

all1knew- Yes- my suspicion was much higher with these guys, that is why I measured, weighed and photgraphed the pieces prior to purchase. Both have gotten the thumbs up on the forum and the measurements are dead on. The Klein is particulary treacherous,as there are good fakes. I can post some further images of them if you like with weights and measurements. This place is a gun shop, with a few medals. They are quite clueless about the medals, as they specialize in lugers. They pciked up all three crosses at the same time from a collection. The collection had some good and some bad.

                        Tom,

I would love a lesson about fakes. Please provide me with clues on how to detect the fakes. You have to remember that I have only been doing this for five years. I don't have a huge amount of time for it either being at WIU and all. So I would love some pointers. Thanks.

If you have been doing this five years, you have been doing this longer than I have. I spend a couple hours a day looking at images of the real and fake pieces and have purchased real items with which to compare. The site here on DKiGs and Gordon's book is helpful. There was a great thread about three months ago on the fake Klein DKiGs that is very helpful, with the weight and measurements slightly off, but also particularly in the "134" on the reverse as well as the date on the wreath. There is a very good klein fake floating around that is 62.6 mm,rather than 63.05 that Detlev Neiman featured. The "134" is also wrong.
