Info about an unmarked E.K. I

Yesterday I picked up this unmarked E.K. I from the widow of a World War II veteran. As you can see, the German soldier scratched his intials (A.A.) twice on the reverse of the cross. The catch appears to be a period repair, but I am not certain. Perhaps it's how this maker attached their catches? Can anyone identify the maker of this cross? I am looking forward to everyone's comments.

A Meybauer 7 with a repaired catch in my opinion.
          Best regards,

very nice cross! The catch looks to be made by Petz und Lorenz and i have no problems to believe that it is a period repair.

The cross itself is a earlier piece by Meybauer.

Can you maybe gie further infos about the soldier?

Thanks streptile and Stefan! I asked the widow about her husband's service, but she knew very little because she married him long after the war. She had absolutely nothing else that belonged to him - not even a photo. I did also buy an RAD cap emblem in lousy condition from her.
