German Cross in Silver for the Luftwaffe

Hello All, I have posted this badge before.
Is this a genuine silver DK with Luftwaffe Cloth backing?

I do note that it appears to have been on a uniform before?

    Your help would be appreciated

    Many thanks

    Hello Doug -

Maybe it is just the photography, but the details of the wreath look 'soft' - almost like it was buffed at some point. Again, maybe it is just the photo. Does it look this way in hand?

The pin holes on the reverse make it looks as if it was sewn to a uniform at some point. Any threads visible from where it was sewn to a uniform?

Looks fine to me other than what appears to be a 'soft' detailed wreath.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Could it be Navy? Seems a little too "blue" for Luftwaffe.

Looks OK to me, too. The KM versions I have seen on uniforms are on very dark blue or black backgrounds.

          Hi Calvin,
The details do look quite crisp in hand perhaps it is the dark toning of the silver that makes it appear as it does.
I do note that there is a flaw on top of the ‘9’ in 1941 though.
There are a couple of dark threads still left but they may be from the badge backing.

Hi Dietrich, I am fairly sure it is a Luftwaffe backing but I will know for sure later this week as I have a Gold DK coming from an Ex Vets family with a few other LW items so I will be able to compare them then and let you know.

Thank you both for your input

...is £200 too much for this cross in it’s current state?

          All the best
          Doug

I would think that £200 is a great price. I would certianly pay that right now.

                      Doug,

Nice Cloth DK. Curious as to why the prongs for the wreath are so prominently outside of the backing -- leads one to believe the wreath was replaced at some point. Regardless, I would easily pay £200 for this example.
