EK2 mm L/58 post-war - opinions please

I picked this one up at an antique shop in Vienna many years ago and I've never tried to have it authenticated. I simply assumed it was either a modern reproduction or a 'Frankenstein' of some sort.

As far as I can tell the ring is stamped L/58 or L/56 and the ring has apparently been bent so that the cross might be worn as a KC. To me the frame looks like a standard, well-made 1939 EK2 frame. But the blank core is what makes this cross unique and questionable. Could it be a post-war piece for use by veterans between 1945 and 1957? Your comments and opinions would be welcome. Thanks.

Is the core magnetic?
It looks like there are traces of rust along the beading....

You will see these appear somewhat regularly on the forum, and they are usually posted in the 57er section. In my opinion they were made between 1945 and 1957 by Souval. It's a neat piece.

Thanks for your feedback guys. The frame is magnetic and actually I had originally considered it might be some sort of Souval piece, given the look of the frame and that I had purchased it in Vienna. But what threw me a little was the mm on the ring. The mm for Rudolf Souval is L/22, according to my reference material, and the mm on the ring for this piece looks more like L/58.

Btw, are pieces like this rare? I'd imagine that these would be harder to find than a standard 1939 EK2. Having said this, does anyone have any idea how much this cross might be worth? Thanks for your further input.

Souval is definetly L/58 and 98 and post war examples should cost less then period one. Not for my collection either.

These are not particularly rare. They are often found in the 57er section, and usually sell for between €40 and €60. Finding a marked one is interesting, though.

According to "The Iron Time" by Stephen Previtera (1st edition) L/22 is Souval...and L/58 is another maker....

Thanks Trevor. I would have thouht they'd be worth a bit more. But I guess, like for any award, it also depends on just how much one is willing to pay. Whatever its worth, given the interest it has generated, I've developed a new sense of appreciation for this cross. Thanks again.
