      Hi Curtiss!

How have you been? Long time, no see....

Your cross is fine, a beautiful vaulted EK 1, in great shape.

I have one just like it.

Very Nice..... I gotta get me one of these...

When I first saw this, I couldn't work out whether those were 'flaws' or 'damage' to the 9 o'clock beading.....it certainly looks like a big flaw.......but I guess when you consider the tooling for these had to see out most of WW1 as well as the early part of WW2, if they are flaws, IMO, they are certainly not out of place....

(Would that be an accurate assumption Mark??)

          Well done!

            Hi,

Curtiss, if the price is good - go for it! As already mentioned, that's a really nice original.

Biro, my example has even worse flaws in the beading! Probaby one of the reasons there aren't too many of this type around - the dies probably had to be retired fairly early in the war.

            Regards

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

I see TerryG also has a screwback with a very similar flaw in this recent thread...

                Hello Mark, Mike, and Biro,
Thank you all for your input. I will indeed purchase this EK1. It helps tremendously to get the opinions of collectors with more knowledge in this area. I noticed that beading flaw and was concerned that it may be indicative of a reproduction. So, I am relieved to hear it is more a sign of a true piece. I am mostly a uniform collector, but I wanted one of these early pieces to go with my early war tunics.
                Thank you and best wishes,
                Curtiss
