Iron Crosses with NON magnetic cores ?

    Hi.
I just got a nice iron Cross 2 class in the mail (thanks Johnny).
Nice sharp details. The core is non magnetic.
What materials did they use in the non magnetic cores ? I know that both brass and bronze where used, but i can clearly see that this cross use another metal. Zink ?

    Thanks.

If corrosion was an issue with the crosses at sea for example, wouldn't zinc be 10 times worse than an Iron Core for corrosion? I thought Zinc corroded much more rapidly than iron?

Any chance of seeing pics? I am intrigued!

        Peter,
Indeed, they did make EK2's with zinc cores.

Thanks. Here it is. Very nice cross, with zink core in my opinion.

            Peter -

It appears that there were zinc EKs made early in the war (pre LDO). I have posted mine below. Also, check this thread...

While not very common there are zinc cored EK's. It is even possible to find WWI EKI's and EKII's that are one piece constructed entirely from zinc.
