    How can you tell?

How can you tell if a cross has been cleaned? Other than because it's shiny.

    Hi Bernie,

Either a lack of, or significant disturbance to, patina is certainly one possible indicator as might be the presence of scratch marks from the use of an abrasive cleaner. Residue from paste cleaners is sometimes visible under the edges of the frame as well. A magnifier with at least 10X and preferably 20X is a very handy tool to have at your disposal when checking out EK and war badges.

    Regards,
    Stu

      Thanks Stu,

I prefer to leave the patina on the frame intact but sometimes it is very uneven and a light cleaning could enhance appearance and eventually even out the patina. Is there a preferred method of cleaning the frame without damaging the cross?
