I'm no expert but not sure I like the look of the 'attached' loop and the '800' mark so far off centre.

guess you need to ask the question, "do I trust the source offering it"

I don't believe this is an original RK, It is trying to copy an Otto Schickle RK with that style of ring but the beading seems to join toegther in places and is not very well defined.

Thanks guys--I'd like to solicit more opinions if possible. -- the core, to me, looks more like a Zimmermann but the eye, of course, looks like a Schickle style. I am told that this as acquired in the 1960s. Any other thoughts?

Here are the numbers from a genuine Schickle RK -- the only known type of RK with the flat ring on the top arm. These numbers don't match those on your example. (Photo courtesy Gordon Williamson's The Iron Cross of 1939)

I agree, George. The core has more in common with a Zimmermann (although it's not) than a Schickle.

Good morning all! Erich, I'd leave that one where it is! I can't find one thing I like about it and as indicated the ring is 'trying' to be a Schickle....However, I'll take it a little further and suggest that the flat ring is not 'original' to that cross but merely filed/sanded down to offer the flat appearance.

ie: Look at the patina on the arms etc., but it's not evident on the upper arm or ring and the upper 'flange' is so much smaller than the others.

Thanks all! I came to the same conclusions but advised the owner of the piece that I would post photos to solicit comments. I appreciate the feedback!
Notice also that the beading of the lower left inner center corner is higher (obverse and reverse) than that of the right inner center corner.
