Spanish Cross Gold

Again, thank you all for the time and effort... The greatest reward is "showing the blind how they can see"...

May I please ask just a couple of more questions...

Can one have an authentic Spanish Gold Cross unmarked and if so, why would a manufacturer not put its marks on it? I thought the German's were fanatical about marking and stamping items. Could unmarked gold crosses be prototypes or examples that did not pass the strict criteria guidelines, therefore not worthy of a hallmark.

Are there records of all the gold cross recepients? Not the gold cross with diamonds which is documented? In other words, can one prove a named gold cross definatively, i.e, documents included with the cross.

Last but least, one thread mentioned he bought a Spanish cross by Fugazi... What or who is a Fugazi? I know, it can not be good, but I still would like to learn. Thank you,

Hello,

Not all the crosses were marked. Some manufacturers didn't marked their production (i.e. Pelz & Lorenz). Manufacturers did make crosses without marking them whatever the class. So, yes you can find unmarked gold crosses from Juncker, Deumer, just to mention them. These crosses are not in massive silver but in tombac and then gilded. The quality is not the same as a massive silver even if they are as desirable as them. I don't think that such crosses were awarded during the first awarding ceremonies in May 1939, but were purchased later (this is just my opinion).
there is no record of the recipients of the gold cross to my knowledge. some books mention names (LW and Pz). You can deduct the class of the cross when you know which spanish medal the owner was awarded, because there are some links between both decorations. group can also have the Soldbuch or Wehrpass were the spansih decorations are mentionned.
We know that 1126 gold crosses were awarded (Dr.DOEHLE, Die Auszeichnungen des Grossdeutschen Reichs, 1940)

Thank you very much Jacques for all of your help and kindness...

With out coming across as a pain in the neck, may I ask about the Gold Spanish Cross with diamonds... Has anyone ever seen one in person or read about its details... Are the diamonds old european cut or round brilliant cut? and what is the approximate carat size of each stone, i.e, 20 points, 25 points, etc..(with 100 points= 1 carat) and how many diamonds are in the circle.

Also, to be awarded the gold spanish cross with diamonds over the gold spanish cross, would it be a reasonable deduction to say that third reich politics were involved, i.e, Field Marshall Goring's favorites were given the cross with diamonds... or was it strictly determined by actions in the field and no politics were involved...

Hi,
very few crosses with diamonds are known within collections. Most of the owners keep them secret in the aim to avoid any good faking.

The cross was authorized for wear by the recipient affixed to the right breast pocket, under the Blood order for those who already received that medal.
The form is of the preceding decorations with swords. It is pebbled with the raised portion highly polished. It is important to note that the cross is larger than the normal cross; from point to point of the Maltese cross it measures 58mm x 58mm and the length of the swords is 65mm. The centre is a separately constructed plate. A ring is independently riveted to the cross. 14 half-carat diamonds are clutched on this ring. real and imitation diamonds were used, depending the type of cross.

Very interesting thread. I still don't know what to do with these B&N L spanish crosses: to buy or not to buy? If Jacques answers something like "I don"t have a B&N L spanish cross in my collection" I will know what to do.
