Help with EK2 Spange, please

Gents:

I picked up this first pattern EK2 Spange yesterday, from a local dealer I know. I read all the past threads on EK2 Spanges, and learned a lot (also learned that there are some convincing fakes out there). My example seems to have the die flaw under the '1' that was mentioned. There are no veins in the wings. The odd thing is that the prongs are completely un-clipped and squared on the ends. The back is unmarked as far as I can tell. Looks like a good one to me- but I still have a lot to learn. Opinions appreciated as usual.

Thanks, I appreciate it. That would have been my best guess based on what I read. First one I have come across, and I bought it totally blind (the seller has a return policy, so no worries). Once I learned the distinction between an EK1 and EK2 Spange, I started comparing it to examples of second patterns on the Wehrmacht Awards home site. I saw all kinds of differences that concerned me, until I compared it to a 'first pattern', then it all looked good.

Thanks again, guys. Not to boast, but I paid $70 for it. There is a military dealer nearby that is still pretty much clueless about current values for German items. Not the first thing I scored from him. More to follow- this forum will certainly educate a person (and raise his paranoia level) about this hobby.
