Last year we had a good thread where members showed their Crosses-related finds at MAX. Although I didn't go, I'd love to see 'em from this year, too. So here we are.

I've read the turnout was bleak....maybe there weren't that many who actually went , and if so ,maybe only a few bought crosses, that reason alone might explain why the thread went flat. We will have to wait and see I guess. The photos looked like 10% of the capacity normally seen.

There were many EK 1s and a LOT of EK 2s, but I didn't look at any except for a couple of mounted EK 2s. My main focus was KVK 1s, because they are the subject of the next book Dietrich and I are working on (in tandem with working on the EK 2 book). I did manage to get a KVK 1 without swords, though, a Deumer with a rare "3" maker mark on the pin.

There were so many fake RKs my head was spinning.

Best quote of the show from a dealer: "This is your chance to get an RK made on the same wartime dies but at a fraction of the cost!"

One thing became clear to me after this show: the community cannot win any fight against the bad dealers. There will alway be some. The far bigger problem is the ignorance, gullibility and fatuity of the collectors who think they know it all an can make a "bargain" in the presence of hundreds of educated collectors who were looking at everything already one day before .... Or the auction! Buy some fake for cheap money and no "wondering" at all why all the other collectors in the room don't bid????

I was amazed (perhaps I shouldn't have been) at the number of dealers who were pushing fakes with total sincerity (sociopathy?). Whether they were doing it out of ignorance or sheer gall, I couldn't tell.

I saw at least 20 fake RK's. One dealer had 4 (a "65", a "20", an "L/12" and a
"935-4")...problem was they were all the same cross! Out of curiosity, I talked with this fellow for a few minutes and it was clear to me that he knew absolutely nothing about RK's. Did he know they were fake? I actually doubt it.....

This is One of the primary reasons many of us don't even care about attending these shows anymore. This "hobby" is slowing being buried in it's own sewerage.
