I saw a couple of places that appeared different on the reverse views.

Remember, there is a Type I and II of the Godet Oaks. The area you highlighted on the front is the area in Gordon's book pointed out. See Page 377 of The Iron Cross of 1939.

I see a diiference in the shape of the oak leave near the bowing vein. Does anyone else see it?

Here's a good set of #1 Style Godet oakleaves from Detlev's good/bad of the week. I can provide better photos of this one if necessary. This set belonged to Heinrich Paepcke.

Why would type I oaks be marked as type 2?

                          It could be the angle....

.... but these places look different to me.

Could be the angle of the back George. I'm seeing quite a few die characteristics on the obverse to make me think it came from the original die.

Billy, the '21' did come later but did it come before/after/during the striking of first patterns? I didn't see any oaks w/provenance in 1st Pattern that showed '21'. Not sure...

For me it's still the original question, "Stike or restrike?"

...and the issue now for a potential buyer and the owner, is an unfounded rumour ruining the possibilities of this piece in the minds of collectors? Did Klietmann restrike these or a later owner of the dies restrike?

                                Or, is there an issue?

I have a very expensive dagger with a rumour attached to it. In the minds of some, Johnson and Angolia, it's literally textbook, indeed, their own textbooks. But in the minds of others, it's stigmatized by a rumour.

So how do you seperate fact from fiction?

Wait for a miracle like the Otto Schickle catalog to prove a Condor Legion Tank Badge?
