      John,

Here is a reproduction ribbon. One edge looks close to an original (irregular edge), while the other edge is way off (whip-stitched). These are made currectly in Yugoslavia. Both edges of an original ribbon have uniform 'loops'. Although I have never encountered an original 30mm-wide EKII ribbon that glows under a black light, let it be known that the Third Reich DID use dies in materials that glow under such light. I have even found 30mm-wide EKII ribbons with what appears to be the correct 'loops' on both edges, but the thread used to weave the ribbons is too thin and the ribbon turns out being very thin and light.

The only lengths I have found in original 30mm-wide EKII ribbons is cut 11 1/2 inches long. I have seen them folded in different manners. Deschler folded them in a different manner than normally encountered.

          John,

Here's an interesting thread on the many 'frosting' methods of EKII's. Do a search and you'll find many more on the same subject.

By the way, John, welcome to the forum! I hope you find what interests you the most in the field of collecting. You have some of my ribbons from off of the e-stand. Look them over closely; they'll speak to you. When you come across a reproduction ribbon, if you ever do, it will stand out like everything. Good hunting to you, and once again, welcome. This is the best and most lively forum I know of.
