Here is a picture showing two generals wearing their spanges. The one nearest to Hitler has his spange and EKI in the center of his pocket. The next one has his spange in the center of the pocket and the EKI hanging below the pocket. I always thought that both of these were supposed to be on the pocket. The picture is from a Times article.
