Strange 1 marked EK2 ?

Well Robert ... Maybauer used more than one frame and different cores . The connecting bead is a S&L feature and you mean then Maybauer made and supplied S&L somewhere around 30% of all frames for S&L crosses ???

I agree, Meybauer used more than one frame. It is possible that that Meybauer used S&L frames early on.

My other 2 Meybauer EK II's do not have the mark.

Look at that ! From that direction it looks like a proper European 'Seven' as I( made in school there .
In this case I would however consider it a co-incedental mark that hapens to look like a 7 . The jump ring is so small and so hard to work with and mark . The ribbon ring is easier to mark which is marked . The parts of the 7 are not all the same intensity and depth - as far as I can tell . One probably could attempt it with a file , maybe ? - or did someone use the 2 deaper existing marks and added the others later to make the 7 ?? If we look at maker 24 - their X's and O's and acorn etc are all struck on the side of the jump ring .
