    Deschler DKiG

    Hi guys,

Thought of sharing this one with you guys. Picked up this bugger today, a rather rare transitional Deschler piece when they switched from the short pin to the thick pin. This piece was picked up by an English pilot from who I have a picture and name. The middle rivets were tightened a bit but as for the rest I just love the heaviness, patina and excellent enamel!

Interesting piece. Especially the middle rivets. One can see it very often with the 10 and 6 rivet pieces that this was done by the owner to get rid of the rattle of the cross. Something a collector needs to know since it is one of the trademarks of a genuine early Deschler.

Beautiful piece! The DK is one of the most decorative awards IMO......

        Well Done Giel,

            Hello all,

So what did smashing the center rivets down do exactly?

Good question William, as obviously these rivets are ment for the golden wreath and not for the swastika...

I don't think that the owner of a cross knew how the piece was assembled. He just saw that the head of the "rivet" (it is not a rivet) did not sit flush with the backplate and thought that was the reason. So he compressed the head of the "rivet". Can be seen on nearly every early Deschler and it could very well be that some of the deformations were even "factory made".

                  Hi Dietrich,

But why are the 2 rivets smashed if the swastika is completely sitting tight?

                    Giel,

I can't answer that. You would need to ask the guy who did it. All I can say is that a lot of the early Deschler have that. There are examples of this in my book and if you do a search here you will find even more.

I can answer that question- the cross posted below is silver and same type of manufacture without the rivits being compressed- the wreath rattles like hell- more so than the swaz. There is movement in the entire centre section but in the wreath in particular, so the owner tightened the wreath not the swaz.
