how exactly did a "loop back" version such as this function in regards to the ribbon, the ribbon being much wider? How was the spange affixed in place, or did it just slide along the length?

Thanks Will! I'm no expert, but the ribbon could be maybe sewn tight around the point of the spange. It actually saves from having to worry about the pins being bent & then broken which is such a common occurance!

I believe this model was intended to be easily removed when the tunic was cleaned. The ribbon would be sewn at the top to the tunic, as usual, but attached to the underside of the front flap with a snap or a button. Instead of bending the prongs to remove the Spange, and breaking them, you could unbutton the ribbon, slip the Spange off, clean the tunic, and then replace it. It actually looks just fine if you slip a 25mm 1914 EK2 ribbon through the loops, which was a commonly used ribbon size for the tunic.

L/13 seems to be the only maker who did this version, in small numbers (I've seen 4)
