    Zimmermann or Godet?

Are there any tips for distinguishing a Zimmermann from a Godet when no maker mark is present? I believe the finish to the core is an indicator...for this cross what are your opinions?

Yours has a Godet frame ( to me a UB frame ) ... a Godet core . Are the balls in the date round or oblong ? Any side pictures of the pin set ? From the top it looks like a Zimmermann right now . A round or C catch or spiral catch ?

Yes a nice cross . Being in and out all day ... just had another look quickly at the date . Regular Godet core and frame . ... and most likely a Zimmermann pin set .
What is the weight of it ?

              Guys,

I'll add more pic later today.

I can say the catch is not as wide as on my '20' and there is less ridges on the ribbing.

I'm not sure about the balls on the date so will include a close-up for your analysis.

              Bear with me!

Do you have either (or both) a marked Zimmermann or Godet that you can do an in-hand comparison with?

Finding a Godet EK1 at all is quit difficult .... and had done this comparison befor you posted yours . Finding flat straight on pictures is a chalange . .. and is needed in most cases . Here one can seperate the 2 cores even if the cores are not to scale .

Yours is like cross 1 : the UB core is on the right .
Cross 1 has date 'balls' that are round and cross 2 they are oblong .
Cross 1 has a flat top Swastika that does not touch all corners .
Cross 2 has a larger Swastika that touches all corners and the top is 'domed' !
Even though at first they may not look like it >> the frames are from the same die - different stages of wear .
On cross 2 the inside arm flange cutouts had been ground down to about the same width as the out side arm flanges . On cross 1 they have not done that !

And here is the pin side : a quick comparison .... Richards's is on the left - mine on the right . The pins and anchors are quit different .

                            Ok,

Date and catch. Close up of centre to follow.

Sorry no weight. Since I moved I can't find the scales.
