"Die characteristics suggest it to be Deumer"

Which is why I haven't used the word Deumer here...

Then I will very respectfully disagree with my esteemed Co-Moderator.

You don't think it's a Deumer? You're convinced it's a fake by any other name?

          I don't think it's a Deumer. But I don't have any reason to think it's a fake.

            George,

You are right. The style is very similar to the regular Deumer, but that numeral "3" is sufficiently different to maker marked Deumers to preclude it from having been made on the same dies.

We are probably looking at the same sort of situation as with the f.o. style U-Boat badge (wide shield shaped chest, solid swas) where there are a number of different makers where the obverse is virtually identical, presumably copied from the same master.
I'll change this in future to Deumer "style".

quote from Gordons book:"A late war clasp featuring a duller finish over a zinc base. Die characteritics suggest this to be a Deumer-made piece although it is unmarked."

Looks like Gordon beat me to it!
