RELIC IRON CROSS 2nd CLASS! Genuine or not!

    Hi,

According to a seller this is a relic from Stalingrad. Is it possible to determine from the photos?

    Regards,
    Roger

I agree with Thomas: Sure, it's a relic, but from Stalingrad? Who knows??

I used to collect relics and that one is quite nice, rust expansion often splits the frames apart but this one looks good. Another plus is that the core seems to have kept its black color, another plus. The type of soil has a lot to do with whether the core turns brown with rust or not. I think I see a maker's mark on the ring, if there is one, what is the number? A rare cross is a rare cross, relic or otherwise!

Relic crosses are VERY common and should be fairly cheap, I never paid over 30 dollars for one. Now I see them on ebay going for over a hundred dollars, usually because the seller claims they are from some famous battlefield (and I wouldn't be surprised if there was shill bidding going on) Well, believe the item and not the story...

Don't wanna steal your show but here's one of mine that still has a black core too!

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that just because a cross is in relic condition doesn't mean the cross isn't fake. The "famous" Latvian forgers are more than happy to dip a cross or two in acid to catch a relic collector. I know because I bought one Examine them as if you were buying one "from Opa's box in the basement"...

There is no way period to trace this or any relic to Stalingrad! unless discovered by yourself under a road that was paved in 1944! As said already, Buy the peice, not the story!
Ausgangs cross looks pretty good! the cross You show Roger has a bit of rust on the frame which concerns me along with the beading!

If it was very cheap OK but why not buy a nice one? Plenty around.

Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.
