      Hi.

      EK2 is a good one

      I believe that EK1 is a Rudolf Souval's post-war made

I have to respectfully disagree about the EK1. I believe this is a good Souval war- time piece.
Usually the post war cross does not have the rounded inner beading around the swaz.
        Pretty rough core though.
I do agree the EK2 is good also.
        Dave.

          Sorry, my bad

I mixed your EK1 with this one:

Souvals can be tricky, whats post war or not

Your EK1 looks like the EK1 on the right side in this thread:

Is that a maker mark on the EK2?

Both are original, as mentioned an S&L and a Souval.

The soldier, who got these EK-s was Otto Hyken Kriegmarine officer. He was on the board with Otto Kretschmer in U35, got the Spanienkreuz.
After that he got Asthma, went to a Schnellboat. At that time got the Ek1-2.

If these EKs are definitely the ones he wore at sea it shows the effect of salty air on the EK1 quite nicely. Is it magnetic?
If so, perhaps the long standing theory that non magnetic EKs were for use by Kriegsmarine personnel can be shown to be nonsense.

It's magnetic and he wore this one at sea.
