Here is one that has a few interesting attributes. First of all, the core is blued rather than laquered or painted. It is uniformly vaulted which may preclude a hand-made attempt by the original owner to achieve this effect. When you look at the back there are several interesting features. The pin is a period replacement. Since that is now out of the way, please take a look at the hallmarks: they are stamped vertically instead of horizontally! 'L59' to the right of the pin and three very small dots which form a triangle to the right. The 'L59' looks to be hand punched due to the minute markings around the initial stamp. Finally, the catch itself happens to open up to the LEFT instead of opening up to the RIGHT, as is the norm for most German badges regardless of era of manufacture. I know that Gordon is familiar with these, but does anyone else have similar examples?
p.s. Please disregard the big fleck of cat dander on the picture-- my youngest is quite obnoxious!!
