Clearly having few posts is no indictation of posting uninteresting threads, nor do many postings guaranty interesting content.

Thanks for posting these. He must have had a difficult and interesting life.
Can you tell me why thre secret police raided his house?
Did fighting with the axis powers put him on some list?

      Was he in the crimea?

Do you know anything about his motives for changing sides? Did his whole regiment simply go over or was it a personal decision?

        My father's medals

        Hi Philipson,

No, he fought in Northern Bassarabia. The Secret police used to do small raids on people with "dubious" backgrounds. A lot of times it was just a formality, just to remind you that they are watching the people.

That Russian medal might have saved his life. Many Romanian soldiers with just German and Royal romanian medals were interned in labour camps after the war and many had perished there.

On "defecting", both Finland and Romania had switched sides in 1944. It wasn't one individual, but the whole Army. See here and here.

Very interesting story! Seems your father was quite a man indeed. I would also replace the EK2 with an original if possible.

              Hello Korne,

Thanks for the reply, and the links, but i am very much aware of the axis allies that changed sides.
I asked the question because reading your account of your your fathers activities , it seemed possible he re-enlisted afther his wound, to join the fight against germany, and doing so, probably avoided a whole lot of problems with the soviets.
Are you saying he re-enlisted to fight further on the axis side?

I mean, if he re-enlisted to join the fight against germany, than it would have been a personal choise.

                  Hi Korne,

Nice post. I agree with the others - you really should get an original EK2. -Ger
