Need Opinions about a Cased Iron Cross 2nd Class...

What do you all think about this? I've never seen a case with this emblem on the lid, looks too new as well. Probably a repro?

As far as the cross itself, a couple things make me leery, but I want your opinions/experience. Do all EK2s have makers marks stamped into the ring? If not, how does this one look since there is no number? To me, the edges appear too pointy, not rounded enough.

    Thoughts??

That cross is a very nice Deumer. Case is a well-known fake.

Yes, the cross is an original Deumer, I have no idea about the case but if Trevor calls it bad than you can be sure it is!

How can you tell its Deumer???

I've looked online and in my reference books, and can't see how you all are able to tell this is Deumer versus a fake. What gives it away? I think the case is obvious, if for no other reason the logo on the cover is not an iron cross.

In short, it matches good Deumers in every respect. The case is fake not because of the logo, but because it does not match originals in any respect.

Thanks Trevor, but I guess I was looking for more detail as to what about it makes it match a Deumer. Is there a reference book you'd recommend that focuses on Iron Crosses? The one I have is a general book on medals and does not get into the details about what makes one maker's cross different from another.

For now the best reference is the search function of this forum. Soon a good reference will be published that will fit the bill.
