Looking for assistance in identifying my Grandfather's Medals

I'd appreciate assistance in identifying some medals which were awarded to my grandfather during WWII.

I know very little of his background, as he rarely spoke of the war. I am certain he fought in Russia, and believe his rank to be "Der Spiess" or Oberfeldwebel.

Infantry Assault Badge in silver
Wound Badge in silver
Iron Cross Second Class
Iron Cross First Class

You can do a google search on any of the above terms to find out more about the criteria for each award.

Nice that You have these in Your hands! If You can take good clear photos of obverse and reverse of the EKI and EKII and post them? We can help find a maker.
Are either of the crosses marked with numbers, EKII on the ring and EKI on the pin or backside of the frame?

I would suggest you try to snap some better (in-focus) shots. There are many on here who can help you with identification, but not from these photos. They look nice so far.

Hello the medals give alot of information.

The capbadge tells that he where a member of a jäger devision/light pursuit division.
The easten medal tells that he where on the eastenfront earlie. The infanterie badge tells he where in direct combat. He where woundet and have the badge for the first 2 wounds and the silver for 3-4 wounds. He where very well decorated and the iron crosses where not given for nothing. The iron cross first class where a great honour to receive.

Hope you will keep these medals in your familie, and put a papernote with them with the name of the veteran and what information you have soo it will not get lost. Allways fun with a story and a name with a collectors item.

Hope the info is helpful. I hope you will post a detailed photo of all the medals in the medalforums. We members like very much to learn from pictures of awards direct from veterans.

Looks like he was a combat vet for sure. Any pictures or documents?

"Der spiess" means he was a sergeant-major, and organised just about everything and was responsible for a number of organisational things in his bataljon. It is more a function than a rank.
He could have held this position for a longer or shorter time.

His frozen meat medal proves he was in Russia in the winter 1941-1942.
Nice to have his Jaeger capbadge to.

His woundbadges show he first recieved 1 non major wound (black badge), followed by 2-3 more wounds or 1 major wound (silver).

The rest is pretty much said.
