Iron Cross compared to Knights Cross

    Hi guys

Could somebody post a photo of an Iron Cross next to a Knights Cross. I must admit that after all these years of collectiong I wouldnt know the difference between an EK2 and a RK.
I tried finding a photo comparison, but didnt manage to find any...

        Thanks for posting that picture.
So the main difference I see is that the loop is not attached in the same direction on the EK1 and the RK. Everything else seems to be made to look about identical?

The RK is slightly larger for the most part, but there is only about 2mm in it, and you will sometimes find early 2nd class crosses of the same size as the RK, but they are somewhat scarce.

Thanks for the explanations. I saw ground dug EK's a few times, and I was always wondering how I could tell if it was actualy an EK or if maybe it may miraculously have been an RK.

That is not correct. The Iron Cross is 44 mm in width. The Knights Cross is 48 mm in width. That makes it 4 mm.

On the ones posted by Dietrich, I see that even the loops are attached in the same direction.
So is the only clear cut difference the extra 4mm?

Dietrich shows an EK1, an RK, and a Grand Cross (GK) -- three grades, all different sizes. No EK2 is shown. Hope it helps.
                          Best regards,
