    RK Questions

I have a few questions about RKs in general. I've searched the archives and done my google diligence, but still have some questions.

How common are RKs and what are top condition RKs worth? Say cased, clean flat ribbon.

Of course values depend on makers. What would a "Holy Grail" RK look like and what would it cost?

Next level; Oak Leaves. What are they worth? I understand they were often sold as a separate piece and attached by the RK holder. Is that accurate?

What would a loose Oak Leaves device fetch these days?

What about a cased RK with Oak Leaves in top condition. Who has them and what are prices these days?

Sorry if these are obvious questions, but the historical info is out there, I want to get a sense of the pulse of the "RK market."

Oh -- I read somewhere investors were buying them up. So are people out the speculating in TR memorabilia?

In as far as RKs go, here in the UK I have seen 2 sell recently on dealers websites, one for £3950 and the other for £4600.

I should add that neither were cased, but nice clean condition.

Thanks! They don't seem to come up for sale often, especially cased and in top condition.

Thanks! I've been researching RKs and I'm learning that discussing religion and politics is much more suitable in polite company than any mention of RK dies, timelines and 3 O'Clock dents.

I never expected such a discrete metal sandwich to inspire such ardor!

Okay, collection and passion aside. What do folks here think of RKs as a cold blooded mercenary investment?

Buy them! They are as reliable as gold or diamonds!

            And they even look better...

The price of gold an diamonds goes up and down - the price of original KCs goes up and up!

I disagree. This has been discussed recently HERE.

I read the thread you referenced. At the least I could see prices stabilizing for a time. I think there will always be pressure on the high end of the market, and as the economy worsens, people who have traditionally invested in standard conservative instruments will seek out tangibles like TR militaria.

My understanding is also that Asian and Russian collectors are entering the market in a big way. There is more competition for quality representational pieces. Also there will soon be 75th anniversaries for the start and cessation of hostilities. Anniversaries drive prices.

It is very hard to imagine prices diving to the $5000 level you mentioned. And if they do, I promise I will stock up on some nice pieces. But I'll probably have to get in line

$5000? Right. The day the US dollar gets up to the equivalent of the Euro ... maybe.

Someone back in the late 80's said, "I'm not going to buy houses till they drop in price". He's still waiting and the prices have tripled.

I think it's best described as 'growth spurts' - Higher awards will suddenly increase in value over a short time, and then there will be a period where they will remain stable, and then another spurt.

I was expecting ( and looking forward to ) a drop in prices during the recession, but it didn't happen - well not in the UK anyway.
