    Meybauer EK2

Haven't picked up much lately, but got this nice little set and thought I'd post it with my usual less-than-fantastic photography skills. No closeup of the MM, but it's the typical 7 on the ring.

Unfortunately, the flap on the packet is cut off, and there's no MM on the packet.

Nevertheless, it's still a nice set Hank, it looks like it's lived in a pocket for years. The cross is a very nice looking example too.

Ditto what Robert said! Looking at Your example reminds Me why Meybauers crosses are mein favorite! can You show the as I expect poor 7 mark on the ring? Quality crosses with the worst maker mark in the business! LOL!!!
Very interesting packet too! You should post it in the case and packet forum if You have not already?

                    Very nice cross.
Did Meybauer have more than 1 frame/core set-up (please excuse my ignorance)?

My Meybauer EK2 is one of my favorites. You have a nice one here. As for the packet, what should it look like unless it was unissued? Chances are this is how the packet was treated by the recipient. Torn open like a bag of chips to get at what was inside. It's amazing that the tissue paper still survives.

                        Hank -

                        A great looking cross, congratulations.

Can I ask you for some close ups of the reverse date?
From what I can see on your cross, it may have a common trait with one of my marked Meybauer crosses, in that it has the top right hand corner of the 3 of 1813 chopped off.
I initially thought it was filed away so the core would fit better into the frame, but on closer inspection I noted that the 'chopped' section had a bevel like the reast of the digits and still had it's paint on that area. Is yours the same?

I'm not sure how common this is among Meybauer crosses, as I had forgotten all about it until I saw your cross!

(Apologies for all the dust on the scans)

                        Regards - Danny

Interesting you should mention that Danny .

Comparing with mine I think they are from the same die . On the lower one I can see what looks like a fine file mark on the top flange of the 8 and 1 ?!? The tip of the 1 on both dates looks very convincing like they were fied down - and one has more removed than the other .... maybe to remove excesss metal from a die chip ?? The frame on mine - on the left - does sit on top of the 3 tip . Could the back of the 3 have been filled down befor painting to avoid the frame actualy sitting on the 3 ?????
And the up stroke on the 1 .... sure looks like it was rounded off by a file ??? Possible all this to make the core fit better in the frame !!
