    EKI x 2

    Recently obtained two EKI's. Both are magnetic. Maker marks and dimensions are as follows:

    MM 15: 44.23mm x 44.31mm
    Core is a nice crisp strike with a worn swastika; has the Orth "pimple" on the top arm frame adjacent to the ribbed section. MM is an incuse relief "15" stamped on the outer surface of the pin.

    MM 100: 43.75mm x 43.76mm
    Not very familiar with Wachtler und Lange EK's. To me, the "1939" date striking is not very crisp; is this a common feature of 100 EK's, or does it occur occasionally with EK cores? MM is an incuse relief "100" on the inner surface of the pin.

    Wanted to get a few EK expert opinions on these two prior to going on display in the home office. Thanks for taking a look.

            The Orth cross looks like a fine original to me.
            It would be good to see a close up of the W&L date if possible? Does it look like the cross has been taken apart and re-assembled? I ask with reference to the dark marks on the inner corners on the reverse.

              Plus the core isn't what I expect in an W&L, although the frame and pin seem ok.

                Thanks for the observations. The frame seems to be intact and aligned correctly, and the core doesn't rattle. I'm not sure about the discolorations on the reverse, but they do seem a bit odd.

                I cannot get my digital camera to take the fine close-ups that I see a lot on the forum; probably user error (my fault). Here is an angled photo that seems to help a bit. Also, I used a loupe to view the 1939 date, and there is a good bit of rust in that area, so that may be the issue with the lack of crispness.

                      That's my guess -- or else an original one with some kind of anomalous core. Looks like maybe a K&Q core? It'd be nice to see the frame seams in good, close shots, but if your camera is unable to oblige then no problem.

                        The next two photos show some of the seams, but not very close. My camera needs an upgrade, but I always seem to use any extra money for TR stuff.

                            Very nice Orth Matt! I like it alot for the worn look it has! I have added a photo of My Orth for comparison, It looks much better in hand v's this huge blownup photo..... Most all Orth crosses I have seen have a semi gloss core finish and are in decent shape. I am not sure if it was Orth's core finishing process that seemed to keep the core from rusting out or viening, Glossy paint with stood moisture better?
                            The firm sure made a nice product though that IMO does not get enough credit for!

                              Certainly I would say now .. the seam is open , solder blobs . That frame has been apart and put back again .
