This was identified as a Funcke & Bruningshaus EK1. I haven't seen many like this. Does anyone here have any examples? BTW the catch opens to the left.

Hi Richard, Interesting set up there! Can You post an obverse shot of the cross? Your pin looks very different than my F&B, there is a thread here somewhere showing different pin types used by this maker.

Hey Richard, Here is My F&B, the core finish is a bit rough but it is a really good looker when displayed with ither EKI's!
I will now be on the lookout for the pin type You show Us!

Reverse. As You can see the hinge on Yours is also quite different than other L/56 crosses..... This shows the interesting difference in Your example with catch opening to the left and different pin and hinge assembly!Last edited by WEISNER; 02-16-2010, 10:19 PM.Comment

I like this EK even if he has not common set up by this maker...
The finish of the back is indentical with the majority of massive tombak WB's by this maker with those random 'dark lines' also this maker is a king and maybe with Glasser&Sohn on the left sided catches...

As it was not mentioned ... I assume those are just 'dings' on the top of the pin ? As the pin is different from the common seen one , has the pin been replaced as the anchor does stick out the ends more than usual ?

Good point Douglas! Perhaps a different pin....? But what about the different Hinge block design, Left exit catch? Are We (Collectivly) sure this is really an F&B L/56 EK???? More specificly the anchor rod that holds the pin in sticks out alot on both sides . Most times one sees the end pinched or hammered out(rivit style) very close or even flush with the anchor block . Some have a nail type anchor rod pin . This being so long - to me would indicate the anchor block was already attached to the back and no room to cut or pinch the rod flush or hammer the rod ends without breaking the anchor right off the back ???

Douglas, actually it only sticks out one side. What you're seeing on the other side is an optical illusion and in fact is the void that the pin is making directly proportional to the amount sticking out.Originally posted by Douglas 5 View Post
I never could figure out the reason or what the marks are at the top of the pin but I can assure you the pin is original. It matches perfectly the finish and frosting to the rest of the cross.
