EK 2 or RK help please ?

I'm inclined to think this an EK 2, what do you experts think ?

Why have a unissued RK ribbon i.e it looks like it is by the folds in the ribbon and length ?

    Kind regards,

    Marcus

      Ek 2

      Hi Marcus,
You are indeed correct. That is an EK 2. The reason for the folds in the ribbon is that this was the award ceremony for GD's Peter Franz. They must not have had a Knights Cross on hand and made do with the 2nd class award.
      Regards,
      Dick

Have you seen this pic before Dick ? Is it a well known one of Franz ?

I bought it in Germany it's reputed to come from a source in the 'Russian archives', I think I may have a reproduction on my hands. Oh well it was only 5 euro's

        Kind regards,

        Marcus

        Ps Regards to the family.

          Marcus,

This photograph plus a nice write up on Peter Franz is on page 26 of, "God,Honor,Fatherland a Photo History Of Panzergrenadier Division "GROSSDEUTSCHLAND". Hope that this helps.
Best wishes to you and your family!

            Marcus.

The ribbon is also EK2. It was pretty common to do this.

            Cheers.

            Robin.

              Thank you Dick,

I think this is a pic of the same chap, I'm not 101% sure. From the same source of course and similar markings on the rear of the pic.

But, never the less a nice picture of the sew on DK.

              Thank you for your help.

              Kind regards,

              Marcus

Just noticed your reply Robin, thanks I thought it was an RK ribbon.....but now you point that out it does look thinner.
