A very generous forum member added this to my collection this week, a cross I have been trying to locate for a very long time. Thank you, Greg, for a very fine example. The rainbow patina on the reverse is really an added attraction to the cross.

Robert, I have a EKI with a rainbow patina, but I haven't seen one like yours where it has a long streak of it on the back. Douglas and others explained in a thread that the rainbow patina resulted from a certain silver plated (or perhaps nickel, I can't recall 100% off the top of my head) oxidation. So does that mean the pin on yours has the same "properties" or the same material or is it a result of something else?

I don't know whether the pin, hinge and catch are pure nickel silver or nickel silver plated brass (tombak). I just don't know about these Godets, whether the frames themselves are polished neusilber or a polished high grade silver plating. Perhaps someone will help us.

A nice cross marked L/50 for Godet . This type of rainbow coloring (also seen on S&L crosses) is the silver plating reacting with the thin protective lacquer coating ,... which is partialy still on your cross under and along the center 'shadowing' the pin . On the back I would think from what one can see - most of the lacquer on the arms has been rubbed off due to wear . One does not come across many crosses that still have that protective coating .

Looking closely at these Godet maker marks I can see two different stamps. The stamp on the SB (lower left) is different than the two PB examples...
