You're right, Mike, an unmarked W&L. I like it too.

Nice cross Mike and good to see a W&L that has a bit of wear, makes a change from all those frosty ones!

Thanks chaps, really looks better in the hand, looks to me anyway to be an early piece, just has that gut feeling, probably last off the line in 45

                  Mike,

If my memory serves me correctly you cross is 2nd generation. The 1st generation had a different frame, and the swasi was smaller. I don't call yours the 3rd generation core because the '1' in 1939 is much taller than yours. Douglas will correct me if I'm wrong. He's very versed in W&L's.

                      Hi Mike .

Nice worn example of an unmarked W&L EK2 .
2nd frame and 2nd core cross with wear . It does look like it was originaly silver plated , which since has worn off .
Robert : the W&L 3rd core has a short 1 as well - the same as the 2nd core 1 . The W&L 1st core has an unusual short one - that is very un-proportioned in size to the other numbers .
It is one of the S&L cores that has the tall 1 in the date .

                      Douglas

                          Douglas,

Here is a 3rd generation W&L-framed cross with the tall '1' in the date. Did they use S&L's cores in their production?
