what do you guys think of this knights cross

i have an opportunity to buy a wwii german knights cross. i collect mostly us medal groups but am starting to collect some german medals. i can not post a photo of the medal but as a new collector what should i look for to see if the medal is fake or real.

The first thing you should look for is a copy of Dietrich Maerz's The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross.

It is better to be forearmed with knowledge and go to buy with absolute confidence in your judgement.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

The only way you can determine authenticity is to either 1. post clear photos here, or 2. purchase Dietich Maerz' book 'The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross', and depend upon your ability to judge the cross from the examples in the book, or 3. do a search on this forum for examples which are by the same maker as the cross you intend on buying. Photos posted here would be your best bet. The author of the book, Dietrich Maerz, is a forum moderator here, and will be of great help once you post photos. There are others who can add their knowledge as well.

Mate, the question you have asked is not anywhere as simple as you may think when starting on the journey through German awards of the Third Reich....I agree with the others on Dietrich's book wrt the Ritter Kreuz but would also aedd that a body of knowledge across the entire Iron Cross typology exists that will assist with this question but it takes time to learn of course!
          Cheers, Steve

On top of all the great advice given here, I would take detailed pictures or ask for detailed pictures of anything that you are purchasing. (should be no problem on a purchase like this) Take them to a professional or show them here at the forum. For you to go in as a novice TR collector, try and determine if something is fake or not, and make a large $$purchase$$....can be foolish.
