Hi,

just wanted to share this special KVK1 (the top one).

Those 3 crosses are L/52 (bottom : late Zinc , right very early Tombak).
The top one is an very early Screwback tombak with unusual characteristics..

Never seen an other, this one cost me" an eye and an arm" but thought I will never found an other one

After close examin, those realy seems to have been done from the same die set.

I know there is not much KVK addicts but I hope you like them...

I wonder if the top one with unusual screwback is indeed "very early," or if very early hardware has been added to a later cross? Honestly, I don't know... but it seems anything with an LDO code would not be early, and would not carry early hardware. Or is my thinking too EK-centered?

I don't know more about these example as I never seen any other. There is no trace of pin back. I think it could be a special order done to Zimmermann, a small quantity production or why not done for a special attribution

I like it, too! I don't think it was converted from a pinback at all... just that maybe the soldier or the jeweler might have switched the screwback hardware, since this hardware is usually seen on 1914 EK1s and other Imperial-era awards, but was probably used-up by the time the LDO was introduced. If it was switched, it was done a long time ago (possibly wartime), since there is no trace of a smaller (standard) screwplate being used there, but there is evidence of this large plate making an impression on the back. It may be a one-of-a-kind piece, and may be 100% factory-original, too. It extremely nice, and congratulations

Interesting that one L/52 has the female post attached to the cross, and the other L/52 has the screw attached. They (Zimmermann) must have changed their minds on which kind of screwback they were going to make.
