Correct width of 1939 EK II ribbon??

    Hello,

Please have a look at the two EK II ribbons in each image below.

The wider one is the standard width (30mm). But the other one measures approximately 25mm in width. I believe they are both authentic but the difference in width is perplexing.

Can anyone explain why these ribbons differ in width? Are they both actually authentic? They both pass the black light test.

I'd welcome any opinions and comments. Thanks.

    Best,

    EK Hunter

Both widths are perfectly normal to find, the 25mm ones is often found with so called 'Schinkel' type of crosses. Can not say anything about the authenticity of yours though, better close up pics are needed.

As Carl said , hard to tell if those ribbons are of war time vitage or not . Quit a few makers of these ribbons and variations exist in the shades of red and the width of these color bands .
I put a few pieces of ribbons together to show some differences .

Nice illustration of ribbon variance, Douglas . And a very arty self-portrait.

            Actually both are standard widths.

The 30mm ribbon is what came with the award.

The 25mm is for wearing through the button hole with out the award.

Both standard sizes for different uses.

If the 25mm is on a standard 44mm EK2, then it is most likely a replacement.
Some people typically replace ribbons with out checking the relevant size needed.
They dont realise there are two sizes.
