As a rule I never clean my medals, but took exception to this spange (I posted earlier). I took it to a local jeweler and he cleaned it for me. It looks a whole lot better and even though uncommon looks better in the collection. Jim

I would have no problems with cleaning a spange in this condition. I usually never touch them but would have made an exception on this one as well. It looks much better than it did.

To save that Spange something had to be done . The Copper oxid buildup was just eating away at it .
Spangen not my area ... the Swastika lower half looks out of shape . Has it been hit ??

I would still coat it with olive oil, wrap it in Saran Wrap, and let it sit for a few days. With a well used old toothbrush, you can remove the remaining oxides and preserve the finish. Even a small amount of oxides can do irreparable pitting.

It's an elastic clear thin plastic sheeting...comes on a roll, and used to wrap food.
