Berlin Vet's pin, EKI Ribbon w/ 25 Yr. Cluster--Help Needed.

Hope this is the right place to post-
I found this Lapel Button/Pin. Berlin Officers Society?
Its backed with the EKI Ribbon, and has a 25 Yr Cluster hanging from that.
Should there be a cross hanging from this? Also--any rarity here?
    Thanks Gents-

You should ask to have this moved to Imperial, where you will get more opinions.

But I will say this: there needn't be a cross, as the ribbon suffices (in other words, it indicates the presence, or award, of the EK2). The '25' JubilaĆ¼mseichenlaub indicates this soldier lived through 1895, when he participated in the Jubilee celebration and parade for the Franco-Prussian War veterans. The D.O.V. pin indicates he was a member of the German Officer's Society, an organization that hosted social events and provided general services for Prussian officers. Kay (Montgomery Burns) has done some research about D.O.V., and he will likely have something to add here.

I don't see any problems whatsoever with this piece, and very seriously doubt it has been faked, ever. It is perfectly lovely, and while it may be rare, it's not necessarily of enormous value, simply because the demand isn't too high. That said, if you offered it for sale here, I'd buy it. So, I'm sure, would Kay.

PS: The way you have it situated, the oaks are on backwards. If you swing them around the loop, so the text on the pin faces in the opposite direction from the '25', you'll have it correctly oriented .
      Best regards,
      Streptile

Yes, move it to Imperial. Montgomery Burns will like this one.

Many Thanks Trevor...I have moved it.
Why would the '25' be facing the opposite way?

Hi Anthony. The "D.O.V. Berlin" side should not show when worn. Imagine putting this into a buttonhole on a suit-jacket. Just the ribbon, with the oaks below it, would be visible from the front. The writing on the back of the button would be hidden under the lapel (and will also be upside-down). That's the way it should be worn. Flip it around and I think you'll see .

EDIT: Here's a rough photoshop approximation of the correct orientation:

                Exactly, Trevor is correct.

                  Hi,

streptile: "... there needn't be a cross, as the ribbon suffices (in other words, it indicates the presence, or award, of the EK2)"

                  This is not correct.

There are several ways of wearing miniatures. With and without the ribbons, with and without the medals.

The important decoration is here the Iron Cross, and not the "25" Eichenlaub.

                    Hi Uwe,
Thanks. This thread was duplicated in the imperial section, and Sascha has already noted this correction. There are also more photos there in which the hanger for the cross is shown.
                    Best regards,
