Four Medal Bar with one cheap copy?

Why would someone hang a cheap copy of an SS 12 yr. medal on an otherwise o.k. medal bar. Or is the whole thing bogus? Opinions please.

If I were a gambling man I would suspect that the ss medal is hung on the ribbon for the 4 year service medal.

The other medals are probably good.

Fair Value?

If that is the case and I take the cheap copy off the bar, what would be a fair value? Not retail, just reasonable. A friend of mine wants to sell it for a widow.

Good question.

I would guess maybe 220$US or about 160Euros(retail) give or take.

Private sale probably less.

I might be a little high though.

I'd keep it and try and find a service medal for it.

Would it be an SS 4 yr service medal or did other branches, Army, Luft, Police, etc have the same blue ribbon? Which would be the correct one to add?

Any 4 year would do. There is no eagle on this ribbon. Either Luftwaffe or Heer.

But Not SS, correct? Because there should be runes on the ribbon, yes? If Luftwaffe would there be a Luft eagle on the ribbon so only Herr might be correct?

Adding a 4 yr army medal

So adding a 4 yr army service medal to the bar might make the complete set worth $250 to $300?

I think( but haven't checked the price) a 4 yr service to buy retail is about 60$.

As far as being worth 250 to 300$ that would be close to retail from a dealer.

If someone(another collector) were buying it you would probably get less.

Just my opinion.

Is the ring on the Iron Cross marked with a maker's number.

Could be worth more depending on the maker.
