What award is most fun and exciting for you to collect ?
The Iron Cross 1 class or 2 class ?

Me likes the 2 class best. To me its the "poor mans"" Knight Cross. It has a sharper and deeper striking at the obverse compared to many class 1.
It comes with a fine ribbon and envelope. The overall quality is often better than a class 1.

Well I preffer the EK 1 class. It look great on a tunic. You can see the cross without problems. I like the plain obverse of the 1st class. And there are a lot of kinds of pins on the back, that you can collec. A Ek 2 it is only marked the ring but the markings of a Ek1, can be placed on diferents places of the pin. I love the solid construction of a 1st class. And the case is, to me, better than a envelope.
But I must to admit that I love the ribbon of the 2nd class... it gives a good look to the cross.

Allthough it's a hard choise, I'm voiting for 2nd Class. Now that i have them all from 1813 to 1957 it's nice to compare them. Construction tecniques, manufacturers, cores, everything!

I like the EK2 better.....obverse and reverse patterns.....i look out for intact core paint. And, the little stampings on the suspension rings for maker's mark are really quite fun to peer at with a magnifier!

I'm voting for the EK2 You got it right when you said it is the poor man's knights cross. You could literally collect dozens of EK2 for the price of one RK. (Not that an RK wouldn't be nice to own )

I like the Second class as well, you get to see the ribbon with it. More colorful...simple as that.
