    EK2RK conversion opinions

Hi! This is a Souval EK2-RK conversion. The cross should be original but the ribbon is not. What do you think, is it from the time of WW2? I personally think it has a nice patina and a salty appearance.

I also got a surname with the cross but as there where several soldiers with this name I can't know for sure who the owner was.

    HI :
If you say the ribbon is not original then it is post war put together . That cross as a RK would never have been worn during the war like that !

Clarification! I have added the ribbon myself. It is actually made of original ribbon even though it wasn't used with the cross. Now I'm curious about the cross, not the ribbon.

From what I see the cross looks original .

Isn't it extremely difficult to find out whether an EK2-RK conversion is original pre-1945 made?

The question indeed ... one can get original parts , but when made . Is the round connecting ring open or closed ?

Yes! It might be impossible to tell if the EK2 was made RK during WW2. But I figured that it was probably the closest thing I would ever come to owning the Knights Cross. And it was half the price of a cased EK1!

I'm not sure I understand your question. The ring that is attached to the frame has broken loose on the back of the cross. The ring connecting that ring to the loop is also open.

Unless a Ek2RK converted piece had 115% rock solid provenance, I would pay less then an original EK2 as it has been tampered with.

But that is just my opinion on this matter.
